Thief in Top Hat Steals $44,000 in Merchandise From Madison, Park Avenue Stores: Police

The grand larceny spree dates from January to the end of June, police say

Police are looking for a man they say stole nearly $44,000 in merchandise from high-end Madison and Park avenue stores during three heists since January.

The latest theft connected to the spree was around 4:30 p.m. June 26 at Daum Jewelry on Park Avenue, when cops say the suspect stole a decorate statue worth about $2,400 and ran off.

Police say the same man is connected to a March 3 theft at Fendi on Madison Avenue in which a fur coat worth about $37,000 was stolen. They also believe he's responsible for a Jan. 27 heist at Jill Sanders, also on Madison Avenue, in which a shearling coat worth about $4,530 was taken.

Surveillance photos released by police show the suspect wearing a long black coat and scarf, a black hat on his head. Others show him wearing a black T-shirt.

No injuries were reported in any of the thefts. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
