A two-alarm fire inside Macy's flagship store in midtown Manhattan forced the store to be evacuated Friday evening.
According to officials, the fire started just after 8 p.m. in the department store's sub-basement.
More than a dozen fire trucks responded to the scene and a stretch of sidewalk on Seventh Avenue between 34th and 35th streets was shut down as crowds of onlookers gathered to watch.
The fire was brought under control by 9:30 p.m. and no injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. The extent of the damage remains unclear.
