MacArthur Airport to Begin DC-Long Island Flights in March

The service is slated to begin March 25.

Direct flights from MacArthur Airport on Long Island to Washington, D.C., will begin by the end of March for the first time in a decade.

US Airways is expected to make the announcement on Tuesday, reports Newsday.

Sen. Charles Schumer, who worked closely with the airline, says flights would depart MacArthur at 6:20 a.m. and 7:49 a.m. daily, and return from Reagan National at 11:35 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The shuttle service to Washington from Long Island ended after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Schumer said the service "is another step in making MacArthur a more important, more convenient and better-used airport for Long Islanders.''

The service is slated to begin March 25.
