Long Island Railroad customers can expect delays during the morning rush hour as some westbound trains are canceled or being diverted because of a derailed maintenance train in Queens, the MTA announced.
Officials said a non-passenger track work car derailed east of Woodside. That's causing cancellations or diversions for westbound LIRR commuter trains on the Babylon, Hempstead, Huntington-Port Jefferson, Long Beach and Ronkonkoma branches.
MTA officials said a total of 15 trains on five of the LIRR's 11 branches are affected.
The transit agency says one car on the maintenance train derailed overnight. No one was injured.
It wasn't the only problem on the nation's largest commuter rail Monday morning. A track condition outside one of the East River tunnels was also causing delays at about 8:30 a.m., though those issues appeared to have cleared up by about 9:30 a.m.
The MTA was cross-honoring fares via the 2/3 subway line at Atlantic Terminal and the 7 train at Hunters Point avenue.
In an unrelated issue, the L train was terminating at Bedford Avenue on Monday morning after a track fire at First Avenue in Manhattan at about 9:30 a.m.
