MTA Scraps ‘Ladies and Gentlemen' Subway Announcements: Reports

Subway riders will no longer be addressed as “ladies and gentlemen” by subway conductors, according to reports.

The change comes after NYC Transit reportedly sent a bulletin to workers that orders them to use a list of gender-neutral terms like “passengers,” “riders,” or “everyone.”

According to a report in the New York Post, the bulletin also directs conductors to override prerecorded greetings that use “ladies and gentlemen” until replacements are made.

One station worker told the Post that the transit agency was “trying to be politically correct,” while an MTA spokesperson said the decision took gender issues into account.
