Derek Jeter To Start in 14th All-Star Game

Derek Jeter was named a starter to what will be his final All-Star game Sunday, the ninth time he’s been picked by fans as the AL’s best shortstop in his 20-year career.

It's the 14th time Jeter has been selected to the team. He'll be reunited with Seattle second baseman Robinson Cano, his former double-play partner in New York, when he takes the field at Target Field in Minneapolis July 15.

Mariano Rivera was the center of attention at last year's All-Star game when the Mets hosted in Citi Field. Jeter could be in the spotlight this year.

"(The) All-Star game was in New York last year. It's a little bit different," Jeter said. "I don't go into it with any expectations. Just trying to enjoy myself and have fun with whoever is here."

Rookie pitcher Masahiro Tanaka and setup man Dellin Betances, both off to superlative starts, were also named to the AL's All-Star roster. They're the first rookie Yankee pitchers named to the team since Spec Shea in 1947 and are two of 26 first-time All-Stars.

The lone Mets selection was second baseman Daniel Murphy. Murphy, also a first-timer, is tied for the NL lead in hits so far this season.
