MJ Fans Launch Fund-Raising Site to Defeat Peter King

Rep. Peter King appears to have started somethin'.

The Long Island congressman's harsh words about the late King of Pop have prompted a Michael Jackson fan to launch a Web site soliciting donations for King's next political challenger, according to Huffington Post.

As of this morning, 80 Michael Jackson supporters have donated $1,897 on the ActBlue site.

King, 65, launched into a tirade that was captured on video and of course uploaded to YouTube by TMZ. "This guy was a pervert, a child molester, he was a pedophile," he ranted.

King on King

King was once rumored to be considering a 2010 gubernatorial run, but now seems more inclined to challenge Kirsten Gillibrand for her Senate seat next year. Or maybe he'll just settle for another term in the third district, where currently there is no Democratic nominee.

Some may share King's sentiment about the overhyping of the death of a man whose every move was roundly criticized for the last 20 years. But at least 1.6 million people who tried to get tickets to today's Jackson memorial in Los Angeles say otherwise.

Meanwhile, New Yorkers have planned to gather in Harlem to watch the Jackson memorial today. The LA service will be broadcast on a giant video screen beginning at 1 p.m. ET at the State Office Building.

Harlem was the site of two tributes to the King of Pop last week as thousands converged on the historic Apollo Theater.
