Long Island Teens Arrested in Machete Attack

Two Long Island teenagers have been arrested in a machete attack on a man in Hempstead, police say. 

The boys, ages 14 and 15, approached a 36-year-old man at Washington Avenue and Front Street the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 8, while riding their bicyles, Nassau Police say. 

One of the teens had a machete and slashed the man on the left ear and shoulder, according to police. They then fled on their bicycles.

The victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. 

A motive in the attack wasn't clear. 

The teens were arrested Thursday and Saturday, and appeared in family court to face charges of assault and weapons possession.
