Family Pushes On for Answers in 2013 Deadly Long Island Hit-Run Cold Case

Nearly four years after a Long Island man's body was found on a street, his family and investigators are still searching for the driver who killed him.

"We just want someone to tell us what happened that night," said Tammy Brothers, the sister of Joseph Santiago, the 47-year-old contractor killed in Setauket in August 2013.

No one actually saw the crash about a block from Santiago's home. The only clue is paint found on Santiago's body; it tells police he was struck by a white Hyundai sedan with a make anywhere from 1999 to 2006.

Other than that, the case has gone cold, investigators say, and Suffolk police are pleading with the public for new information on the case.

"We think there's someone out there who knows something," said Brothers. "Accidents occur but I do not feel like he should have been hit and left like that."

Brothers traveled from her Ohio home to Setauket to go door to door in search of clues, refusing to give up no matter how long it's been.

Santiago was one of seven siblings, and his sister says he walked or rode his bike everywhere.

"They've taken a part of our family away," she said. "We will never be complete again. We just want justice."
