A Long Island high school will reopen Friday, after a day-long shut-down to allow environmental crews to test for asbestos particles.
Division Avenue High School in Levittown was closed Thursday because a contractor drilled into an area of the building where school administrators feared asbestos might be located, according to a statement. After-school activities were also canceled.
However, two tests performed by an environmental testing firm on Thursday determined that no asbestos fibers were in the air, school officials said.
Exposure to asbestos is the primary cause of mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer affecting the lungs.
