A Long Island police detective died when his vehicle slammed into a tractor trailer truck on an exit ramp of the Northern State Parkway early Wednesday, authorities say.
Nassau County Det. Alfred A. Samaniego was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia Denali westbound on the Glen Cove Road exit ramp of the parkway just before 1 a.m. when he crossed over the northbound lanes and hit a U.S. mail tractor-trailer truck, police said.
The truck was going southbound on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place.
Samaniego was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt, police said.
