Suspect Bashes Long Island Cop with Chunk of Cement: Authorities

A Long Island police officer was hit in the face with a chunk of cement late Thursday after pulling a man out of a McDonald's for being disorderly, police say.

The officer was called to the fast-food restaurant on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead just before midnight Thursday. When he got there, he pulled the man out and went back inside to get some food.

It was when he walked out for the second time that the suspect hit him with the chunk. He was able to radio for backup during the assault and other officers rushed to the scene to arrest the unruly suspect.

The officer was taken to the hospital, but his condition is unknown. The suspect, whose name hasn't been released, was charged with assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
