A Long Island man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a screwdriver, tried to choke her and hit her with her own car after the two got into an argument, police said.

Brant Ovsianik, 35, of Mastic Beach, was arguing with his 37-year-old girlfriend at her home around 3 p.m. on Monday when he allegedly slapped her several times, bruising her forehead, according to police.

Ovsianik then allegedly started yelling at the woman, struck her in the face, slammed her head against the floor and stabbed her left side with a screwdriver, according to police.

As the woman tried to call for help, Ovsianik started choking her, police said. The woman tried to use her cell phone and a house phone to call 911, but Ovsianik broke them.

At some point during the incident, Ovsianik got into the woman’s car and tried to drive away, police said.

When the woman tried to stop him, Ovsianik backed the car into her, according to police. He drove into her again after she moved away from the car, injuring her legs and feet, police said.

Police eventually tracked Ovsianik to the intersection of Lido Boulevard and Lynbrook Avenue, where they stopped him.

When Ovsianik got out of the car, he hit one of the officers, police said. Officers found a sublingual strip and orange pills on him that they identified as Buprenorphine and Naloxone.

Ovsianik was also carrying a bag of marijuana, his girlfriend’s jewelry and a gravity knife, according to police. He was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was being treated for swallowing pills, police said.

Ovsianik faces charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing, police said. His attorney information wasn’t immediately available.

His girlfriend was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police. Police didn’t immediately say what condition she was in.
