Long Island Man Tries to Save Dog Hit by Car, Gets Struck by Second Car

Police say a man was hit by a car while trying to save his dog that was fatally struck by another vehicle minutes earlier.

Suffolk County police say the man suffered a broken leg after running into the street to help his dog Tuesday evening in Sayville.

The man was airlifted to a hospital.

According to Newsday, police say the driver who hit the dog did not remain on the scene.

No charges were filed against the driver who struck the pedestrian.
