Long Island Man Arrested for DWI in Crash That Hurt Child: Police

A man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he led officers on a chase down a Long Island road, then crashed into another car, leaving a 9-year-old injured Tuesday.

Police were following a 2010 Mercedes down Grand Boulevard at Carlls Straight Path in Deer Park just before 10 p.m. when they lost sight of it.

A short time later, police found the Mercedes after it struck a 2011 Dodge Ram on Carlls Straight Path and the LIE overpass.

The driver of the Dodge and his 9-year-old son were taken to Huntington Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The 23-year-old driver of the Mercedes, Richard Russo, was charged with DWI and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center where he is being treated for minor injuries, police said.

It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
