Long Island Man Bashed Woman with Toilet Tank Cover: Police

A Long Island man was arrested Saturday after police say he clubbed a woman unconscious with a toilet-tank cover and repeatedly stabbed her.

The 53-year-old woman, whose identity wasn't disclosed, regained consciousness while being stabbed and was able to run off and call police, said Nassau County detectives.

She was treated for wounds to the head, neck and back at a local hospital. Information about her condition wasn't available.

The woman was arguing with Michael Taylor, 50, inside the bathroom of his Uniondale home at about 12:25 a.m. when he picked up the cover of the toilet tank and struck her in the head, investigators said. She was knocked unconscious and Taylor began to stab her, but she regained consciousness and ran off, police said.

When police arrived, Taylor refused to come out of his house, investigators said. After two hours of attempts to get him to surrender, police found him hiding inside a basement wall.

Taylor was subsequently charged with second-degree attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal contempt. It wasn't clear whether he had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
