Long Island Resident Nabs Burglar, Helps Police in Arrest

Two burglars didn't make it far into a Long Island home before its resident turned the tables and managed to hold onto one of them until cops arrived, police say.

The intruders broke into the Uniondale home through a back door at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nassau police said.

The resident confronted and held onto one of them until police arrived. The suspect, 34-year-old Vitelio Cornejo of Roosevelt, was arrested at the scene.

The other suspect, 32-year-old Marvin Segovia-Garcia of Hempstead, was found hiding in a wooded area nearby.

The two men are facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. Segovia-Garcia is facing additional charges of assault and menacing.

They were scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Thursday.
