A Jersey City woman taking care of her teenaged grandchildren on Long Island was killed Thursday when she was struck by a car backing out of a neighbor's driveway, according to a report.

Miu Lamhung, 84, was taking a walk near her son's Jericho home on Manors Drive Thursday morning when she was struck, according to the police and Lamhung's son, Michael Lam, Newsday reported.

Lam said his mother, who lives with him in Jersey City, was looking after her grandchildren while their parents were on a trip to Hong Kong, Newsday said.

A man who lives a few doors down said his wife was backing out of their driveway when she hit Lamhung. The man would not give his name, but said his wife is distraught.

Nassau police said the accident did not appear to be criminal, Newsday reported.
