Tractor-Trailer Crash, Fuel Spill Shuts Down LIE Lanes: Police

Drivers were being diverted off of the Long Island Expressway Monday after a tractor-trailer overturned and spilled fuel on the highway, authorities said.

At least one person had minor injures after the big rig flipped on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 34 in Lake Success, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

It's not clear what caused the crash, which blocked at least three eastbound traffic lanes and caused a fuel spill on the roadway.

Images from traffic cameras in the area showed the tractor-trailer on its side near the median with dozens of emergency vehicles crowding around the scene.

Traffic was diverted onto a service road for several hours following the crash. Hours later, the eastbound left and HOV lanes at Exit 33 remained closed, police said.
