2 Hurt When Truck Collides With Car on Long Island Expressway

Traffic was backed up for hours on the Long Island Expressway when a truck carrying plywood collided with a passenger vehicle, causing both to overturn and hurt two people, officials say.

The truck hit the car near exit 40 of the L.I.E. eastbound at about 2:30 p.m., according to the Department of Transportation. Police initially closed down all eastbound lanes as they investigated, then opened up an HOV lane.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 11 p.m.

The victims were listed in serious but stable condition at Nassau University Hospital.
