Couple Found Dead in Long Island Home After Kids Unable to Get in After School: Police

A couple was found dead in a Long Island home Thursday afternoon in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

Authorities say 27-year-old hospital worker Jenni Street was shot by her 28-year-old husband Wayne Street at their Mastic Beach home while their two young children, an infant and toddler, were inside.

When the couple's four other children came home, they weren't able to get into the house and went to a business nearby to ask for help, according to Suffolk County Police Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer.

Someone from the business went to the home, looked in the window and saw two bodies on the floor inside, Beyrer said.

The couple had only lived in the home for a few months, Beyrer said. The husband was on probation at the time of his death and had been arrested in Suffolk County in 2012, authorities said.

Beyrer said police had never been called to the residence for any domestic disputes.

The six children, who family friends say were all under the age of 11, were taken to a local hospital and are in protective custody.

Three pit bulls were also removed from the home, police said.
