Lone Fishing Boat Survivor Slept in Cold Water Suit

The apparent lone survivor of a fishing boat that sank off southern New Jersey on Tuesday says sleeping in a cold water survival suit saved his life.

Jose Luis Arias said Wednesday he doesn't know why he decided to take a nap in the suit aboard the Lady Mary, a 71-foot scallop boat that sank 75 miles off Cape May. Two crew members died and four have been missing for a day and a half in the frigid ocean.

The Coast Guard says time is working against them in a search that has been scaled back to a single boat.

Arias suspects the boat tilted due to the weight of scallops being brought aboard, but doesn't know for sure. Federal investigators are trying to determine what sent the Lady Mary to the bottom.
