Tri-State Rowers Help U.S. Win Olympic Gold

The Americans edged out the Canadian team to win its second straight Olympic gold in the women's eight

Two athletes from upstate New York and one from New Jersey have won gold medals as part of the U.S. team's first-place finish in the women's eight competition.

The Americans edged out the Canadian team to win its second straight Olympic gold in the women's eight.

The U.S. crew includes Caryn Davies of Ithaca and Meghan Musnicki, who grew up in Naples in Ontario County, near Rochester. Davies is a graduate of Ithaca, while Musnicki graduated from Canandaigua Academy.

Taylor Ritzel, a rower from Princeton, N.J., also is part of the team.

It's the third Olympic medal for the 30-year-old Davies. She won silver in 2004 in Athens and gold four years ago in Beijing as a member of the women's eight.
