Livery Cab Driver Gunned Down

Victim was shot once in the head

A livery cab driver was shot and killed on the job in Yonkers this morning -- the third such shooting this month.

Pericles Salas was found unconscious in his vehicle early Sunday. The 32-year-old was a driver for Mexicana Taxi Service in  Yonkers. He died at a local hospital.

He was shot just before 5 a.m. while driving along Jessamine Avenue.

Yonkers police Capt. William Cave says his department is consulting with the New York Police Department to determine whether the shootings could be linked.

Salas was gunned down less than one week after another livery cab driver, 42-year-old Jose Pena-Seguira, was shot and killed after picking up three men that flagged him down near St. Mary's Park in the Bronx.

A week before that on August 17, Ndiaye Amadau, was shot and killed in an apparent robbery in Baychester.

Livery cab drivers planned a march in the Bronx last week to draw attention to the hazards of their job.
