1. NYC Declares Public Health Emergency Over Measles Outbreak

Mayor de Blasio declared a public health emergency Tuesday amid a measles outbreak — the worst outbreak in New York City since 1991.

The declaration comes after the New York City Health Department ordered all ultra-Orthodox Jewish schools in a neighborhood of Brooklyn on Monday to exclude unvaccinated students from classes during the current measles outbreak.

The health department said that any yeshiva in Williamsburg that does not comply will face fines and possible closure.

2. Parents' Plan to Dry Wet CT Baseball Field Goes Very Wrong

A baseball field in Connecticut is in shambles after 25 gallons of gas were dumped on a wet infield and set on fire in order to dry it out.

The hope to dry out the infield before a Saturday Ridgefield High School baseball game resulted in flames shooting 15 feet into the air and an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.

Tarps now dot the field at Governor Park since Ridgefield was subsequently forced to hire a spill crew to spend most of Saturday and all of Sunday removing the contaminated soil.

3. Purr-fectly Plump: 41-Pound Cat at NYC Shelter Needs Home

Manhattan has its share of fat cats, but this one has nine lives.

A 41-pound cat named Barsik arrived at the Animal Care Center in Manhattan on Saturday, looking for a home and some help losing weight.

The hefty 5-year-old feline is too big for the ACC's housing, so the white cat with black markings is resting in a staff office for now, the shelter said.
