1. Manholes Explode in NYC During Worst April Snowstorm in 36 Years

It's hard to believe slipping and falling isn't the only thing New Yorkers have to worry about in a spring snowstorm. 

On Monday, during the worst April snowstorm in more than three decades, two manholes exploded on the Upper East Side. Video exclusively obtained by NBC 4 New York shows the close call for some nearby pedestrians. 

The combination of salt and melting snow erodes the coating on electrical wires, which can cause the dangerous explosions, according to Con Edison.

2. Here's How New Yorkers Can Save Money on Rent

Hew, New Yorkers! Do you want to save money on rent? Well, you can but it requires a bit of walking. 

The further you live from the nearest subway station, the more money you can pocket, according to a new report.

A recent study by Curbed says New Yorkers can save 10 percent on rent for those who lives 10 minutes or more away from the closest subway station.

3. NJ Drivers Are the Most Distracted in U.S.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and when it comes to one dangerous habit, New Jersey came in first. 

It turns out drivers in the Garden State are the most distracted in the entire country. New Jersey drivers use their phones about once every 4.7 miles, according to a report. NJ also has one of the highest number of crashes per mile driven.
