Serial Knifepoint Robber Not Suspect in Latest Long Island Holdup: Police

The serial knifepoint robber has hit 13 businesses in Nassau County and four in Suffolk County

A man armed with a knife robbed a Long Island market Monday night, but investigators said they doubt the thief is the knife-wielding man wanted for more than a dozen holdups in the area.

In the most recent robbery, a man entered the Country Market in Mastic Beach at about 9:30 p.m., threatened the clerk with a knife and told him to open the cash drawer, Suffolk County police said Tuesday.

The thief fled on foot and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and some cigarettes.

Investigators said they don't believe the robber is the same knife-carrying thief wanted for 17 robberies in the region.

That robber has struck at six Dunkin' Donuts, two ice cream shops and other small businesses in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

In each of those robberies, the suspect waited until the store was empty, then barged in with a knife and stole money.
