Ex-NuHealth Executive Indicted on Misconduct Charges

A former executive for NuHealth, which runs a publicly funded health facilities in Nassau County, has been indicted on official misconduct charges for allegedly awarding a five-year contract to a favored vendor for laundry services at an extended care facility.

Larry Slatky was charged Friday with two counts of official misconduct, both misdemeanors.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice alleged Slatky gave FDR Services Corp., which is run by a friend of his, a personal laundry services contract at A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility, a nursing home in Uniondale.

The company had originally lost the contract to a higher bidder, but Slatky allegedly did not contact the winning bidder, instead negotiating a new lowest bid from the company run by his friend in violation of Nassau Health Care Corp.'s procurement policy.

"Mr. Slatky put his own interest and that of his friend's above the best interest of society," prosecutor Jason Herman said in court.

Slatky faces up to a year in jail on each count if convicted. He is being represented by Brian Griffin and John Martin.

Griffin said he was confident Slatky would be absolved of wrongdoing.

"My client has served this county with great distinction for 14 years," he said.

NuHealth runs Nassau University Medical Center and A. Holly Patterson Extended Care.
