Train Hits, Kills Man on Tracks on Long Island

The man's name and age weren't immediately released.

Officials say a Long Island Rail Road train has hit and killed a man on the tracks in Syosset.

 The man was hit around 1 p.m. as an eastbound train neared the Syosset station. LIRR spokeswoman Marjorie Anders says the man was near a railroad crossing, though not actually in the area blocked off by the crossing gates. She says all equipment was working properly.

Train service in the area was restored around 3:30 p.m. Passengers were briefly diverted to buses.
