LIRR Train Strikes, Kills Woman on Tracks in New Hyde Park

A LIRR train has struck and killed a person on the tracks at New Hyde Park.

MTA police say the 62-year-old woman went under the downed crossing gate at South 12th Street and on to the tracks at about 8:30 a.m. Monday. The train conductor told police he sounded the train whistle but she did not move from the tracks.

Delays of 30 to 60 minutes were reported on the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Oyster Bay branches. All service was back on schedule by 10:50 a.m.

The LIRR says the woman was struck by a westbound train that had left Oyster Bay at 7:41 a.m. and was due in Hunter's Point at 8:55 a.m. That train was delayed for about 90 minutes.
