Kitty Survives 7-Story Fall

A curious kitten who fell out of a Bronx mid-rise building is on the mend and will soon be ready for adoption.

The kitten, named Gilbert, nearly died two weeks ago after the seven-story fall.

The four-month-old broke both of his front legs and fractured the roof of his mouth.

Gilbert got a second chance at life thanks to a good Samaritan who found him and got him to the hospital.

"All in all he's a very lucky kitten," said Dr. Stephanie Janeczko of Animal Care and Control. "Extremely lucky!"

With two paws in casts, Gilbert was dressed for spring and ready for the cameras.

He has a few more weeks of recovery with Animal Care and Control of New York City before he'll be able to be adopted.

"Despite all of these injuries, he's going to be good as new in a couple of weeks," said Janeczko.

Janeczko said Gilbert's fall was not uncommon; seen more often during the warmer months.

"Having good secure screens and guards in place particularly if you live on higher floors and lowers floors is important as well," said Janeczko.
