He may be a Hollywood legend, but Kirk Douglas isn't among the inaugural inductees in his high school alma mater's hall of fame.
Douglas was born Issur Danielovitch in 1916 in Amsterdam, New York, to immigrant Jewish parents from Eastern Europe. He later changed his name to Kirk Douglas as he started his acting career.
The cleft-chin leading man went on to receive three Academy Award nominations and starred in such Hollywood classics as "Spartacus" and "Lust for Life."
The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports that when Amsterdam High School started a hall of fame this year, the 1934 graduate didn't make the cut. Most of the inductees were star athletes for the school.
School officials say community members selected nominees and the 98-year-old actor's name "never came up."
