Former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik said nothing publicly after pleading not guilty to charges of lying, but instead appeared to go online to assail an "unprecedented, selective, and overreaching" prosecution.
Kerik is accused of making a false statement to White House aides of President George W. Bush after being tapped to run the Homeland Security Department after the 9/11 terror attacks.
Kerik faces related charges in New York over alleged financial dealings with contractors seeking business with the city. Prosecutors said the contractors spent more than $255,000 renovating Kerik's apartment in the Bronx.
On an online Twitter account claiming to belong to Kerik, he wrote Thursday morning that he was "indicted for a third time on the same charge. Unprecedented, selective, and overreaching prosecution? You tell me."
Kerik, who was indicted last week, will likely face trials in both New York and Washington.
