Judge OKs Pharmacy Shooting Wrongful Death Suit

A state judge has ruled that Dr. Stan Li could potentially be held liable for the death of Jaime Taccetta

A Long Island judge is allowing the family of a victim in a bloody pharmacy robbery to proceed with a wrongful-death lawsuit against the doctor who prescribed the gunman's pain pills.

Newsday reports that a state judge has ruled that Dr. Stan Li could potentially be held liable for the death of Jaime Taccetta, of Farmingville.

He was among four people murdered in the 2011 shooting at Haven Drugs in Medford.

The lawsuit alleges that Li contributed to David Laffer's drug addiction by over-prescribing pills. The judge says doctors may have a duty to protect the public from the actions of an addict.

Laffer pleaded guilty and is serving consecutive life prison terms.

Li also faces unrelated criminal charges related to his prescribing habits.
