JetBlue and the Canadian airline WestJet have won permission to expand their flights to New York's LaGuardia Airport.
The U.S. Department of Transportation said Thursday that the two airlines beat out five other companies in an auction for the slots at LaGuardia. Each airline will get eight daily flights there. JetBlue already has a small number of flights at LaGuardia, but the flights will be the first for WestJet.
JetBlue also won an auction for eight flight slots at Reagan National Airport in Washington. The two companies beat out Southwest Airlines, Allegiant Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and Spirit Airlines. JetBlue is based in New York while WestJet is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
