An argument between students inside a Jersey City high school spilled out onto a nearby street and ended in a shooting, prompting a lockdown of the school Tuesday afternoon, police say.
Jersey City police said some students began arguing inside Dickinson High School and then left the school.
About a block away, near Newark and Baldwin avenues, someone fired a gun, hitting one of the students in the leg, according to police.
The victim was taken to Jersey City Medical Center and is listed in serious but stable condition.
A spokeswoman for Jersey City said a juvenile has been taken into police custody in the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
The high school was briefly locked down as police responded at about 2 p.m. but resumed normal activity. Chopper 4 over the scene showed an apparently normal dismissal at the school, and police investigating at the shooting scene about a block away.
