Man Stabs Wife, Mother-in-Law With Hunting Knife, Takes Off in Minivan and Crashes: Officials

A man stabbed his wife and his mother-in-law with a hunting knife in their Jersey City home and fled in a minivan before crashing on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities say.

The 53-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed his 48-year-old wife and his elderly mother-in-law in their Winfield Avenue home Friday afternoon, according to a Jersey City spokeswoman.

He then took off in a Toyota minivan and crashed near exit 11 of the New Jersey Turnpike, where state troopers caught up with him and took him into custody, the spokeswoman said.

He's expected to face homicide and aggravated assault charges when he's processed by Jersey City police.

The suspect's identity is being withheld to protect the victims, both of whom suffered serious injuries and are listed in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, officials said.
