Boy, 13, Critically Injured When Jeep Hits Him in Harlem: NYPD

A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle as he was crossing the street in Harlem Wednesday afternoon, police say.

The boy was crossing at the intersection of East 135th Street and Fifth Avenue at about 2 p.m. when a white Jeep Cherokee hit him, according to police.

A witness who was driving behind the Jeep told News 4 she saw two young boys run across the street, and one of them was hit by the car. The witness, who only gave her name as Rachel, is a nurse and gave the victim CPR. She said he had severe injuries and was unconscious.

The victim's brother told Rachel they were being chased but it's not clear by whom or why.

The boy was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.

The driver stayed on the scene, police said.
