Funeral for NY Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Maj. Jaimie E. Leonard, 39, of Warwick, has been buried at West Point

A 1997 West Point graduate who was one of three New Yorkers killed in an attack in Afghanistan has been buried in the cemetery at the military school on the Hudson River.

The funeral for Lt. Col. Jaimie Leonard of Warwick was Thursday afternoon at the U.S. Military Academy's Most Holy Trinity Chapel.

Her casket was then escorted to the post cemetery by flag-bearing local veterans on motorcycles and an Army honor guard that fired a 21-shot salute.

Leonard, Lt. Col. Todd Clark and Joseph Morabito of Hunter were killed June 8 by an Afghan soldier they were training.

The funeral for Morabito, a retired law enforcement officer working as a military contractor, was Monday in Greene County.

Services for Clark were Tuesday in his suburban Albany hometown, Guilderland.
