They may be thousands of miles away but Italian-Americans in New York are doing what they can for the victims of Italy's devastating earthquake.
The Italian American Museum has started a disaster relief fund; so have other Italian-American organizations, and the borough president of Staten Island.
According to the U.S. Census, there are almost 670,000 people of Italian background in New York City.
The earthquake Monday in the central Italian city of L'Aquila has killed more than 200 people and left 50,000 homeless. It was Italy's worst earthquake in three decades.
