Man Dead, Another in Surgery After Targeted Shootings in Irvington: DA

Authorities say the shootings at a check-cashing business appeared targeted

Police have arrested two brothers in connection with Wednesday's shootings inside a check-cashing business in Irvington, N.J.

Officials announced Thursday that Jean R. Francois, 18, and Pierre Joseph, 21, have been charged with homicide, weapon offenses and conspiracy in the shooting death of 21-year-old Daniel Joseph of Irvington.

The victim, who was shot in the head, was not related to Pierre Joseph, authorities said.

Officers were called to Unitransfer Check Cashing at 1187 Springfield Ave. at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, where they found Joseph and another man shot. The victims were taken to the hospital, where Joseph was pronounced dead and the other man underwent surgery.

The judge has issued $1 million bail on each defendant.

No motive was immediately apparent.
