Hydrant Crash Spews Crazy Waterfall Into Air, Driver Flees

A driver crashed into a fire hydrant near a Long Island home early Friday, fleeing the scene as water spewed into the pre-dawn sky like a waterfall arcing the wrong way, according to officials and video from the scene.

Suffolk police say the unidentified driver crashed into the hydrant on Senix Avenue between Main Street and Cynthia Lane shortly before 3:15 a.m. The driver then left, apparently in the damaged vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Footage from the scene shows a dramatic spout of water spewing into the air, reddened by the illumination of nearby police sirens.

The investigation is ongoing.
