How to Rescan Your Television to Receive NBC New York's Signal

How to Rescan Your TV

NBC New York is changing frequencies on August 1 at 1 p.m. If you are an over-the-air viewer who watches our station with a UHF antenna, you will need to rescan your TV channel lineups after 1 p.m. on August 1, 2019 to keep receiving NBC New York.

Note: If you watch NBC New York on cable or satellite then this change does not affect you.

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Make sure you have a VHF/UHF antenna connected to your TV
  2. Go to your TV menu
  3. Select “Channel Setup” (or similar)
  4. Choose “Antenna” and/or “Air”
  5. Run “Auto-program”
  6. Your TV may take 3 to 15 minutes as it searches for channels in your area

If your television is not digital, but you have a digital set-top box, refer to your set-top box product manual to learn how to add channels.

The National Association of Broadcasters has a website that can help you figure out the re-scanning process, and the FCC has prepared the video below as well.

And if you run into trouble, we're here to help. You can contact us by email for assistance with the rescan process, call the WNBC Rescan Hotline Number (855-999-1518) or call the FCC helpline number (888-225-5322).

The slideshows below will show some examples of how to rescan your channel lineup on various different TVs.
