How Big a Fruitcake Are You?

Oops, we meant to ask how much fruitcake you could eat. Bet it’s not as much as Japanese eating champ Takeru Kobayashi.

Kobayashi attempted to break the fruitcake-eating world record, seeking to consume all fruitcake leftover from the holidays as part of a charitable initiative by Major League Eating.

The current record as of this morning was 4 pounds 14.25 ounces in 10 minutes. Sonya Thomas ate all that in 2001.

The event is designed to benefit the Food Bank For New York City and to raise awareness of the crisis faced by food banks across the nation in the current economic environment. With its members, clients and fans, MLE also will seek to raise funds for the Food Bank For New York City, the major provider of food to New Yorkers in need.

The eating contest took place at Gabriella’s Restaurant between 93rd and 94th streets, in Manhattan at 11 a.m. Friday.
