Rush-Hour Commuters Face Delays at NY Penn Station

Emergency track repairs in one of the Hudson Tunnels were causing delays of up to 30 minutes during the evening rush hour Friday for NJ Transit and Amtrak trains leaving from and arriving at New York Penn Station, officials said.

The Long Island Rail Road also experienced delays and cancellations because of reduced access to the East River tunnels

PATH and bus service cross-honored rail tickets and passes while repairs were bing made. NJ Transit estimated on Twitter that the repairs would to run through 5 p.m.

Amtrak officials said delays were expected for the northeast corridor between New York and New Jersey.

Amtrak engineers said the repairs were likely related to the cold weather.

The Long Island Rail Road experienced delays and cancellations because of reduced access to the East River tunnels.

The Long Island Rail Road says westbound service was suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station.

The railroad said it cross-honored LIRR fares on the E Train from the Jamaica, Kew Gardens and Forest Hills stations to Penn Station and on the 7 Train from Woodside to Penn Station.

Officials had said commuters should also expect some delays and cancellations during the evening rush because the railroad is only using three of the four East River tunnels.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officers temporarily restricted access into Penn Station due to heavier than normal crowding.
