A former hospital security guard is charged with putting a patient in a chokehold and punching the victim.
Maurice Dunlap, 39, was contracted by Interfaith Medical Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
In January at the psychiatric wing of the facility, Dunlap allegedly put a mentally ill patient in a chokehold and punched the victim, prosecutors said.
In announcing the indictment and arrest Friday, Patricia E. Gunning, special prosecutor with the state's Justice Center for the Protection of People With Special Needs, accused Dunlap of being irresponsible, "putting vulnerable victims in a stranglehold and punching them, as this defendant is alleged to have done, must be held accountable."
Gutting said that the victim suffered injuries, though they were not severe.
Dunlap was suspended from his position and charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent person, obstruction of breathing, assault, and harassment.
The hospital did not provide a comment.

He was arraigned at the Kings County Criminal Court and is scheduled to reappear in court Aug. 8.
