Horse Breeder Charged With 456 Counts of Sex Abuse

Man sentenced to 20 years in prison

A former upstate New York racehorse breeder has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison for sexually abusing teenage boys who worked on his Saratoga County farm.

Saratoga County Court Judge Jerry Scarano sentenced 49-year-old Donald Nitchman, of Schuylerville, on Thursday as the three victims looked on in court. One spoke of the trauma he suffered, saying he failed eighth grade and dropped out of sports because of the abuse he endured, reports the Times Union. A statement from another victim was read aloud.

Nitchman apologized in court and said he would seek help for his problem. He was arrested in October 2008 and charged with 456 counts of child molestation for sexual acts starting in August 2004 when the boys were 13 years old. Prosecutors said Nitchman used his position of authority to co-erce the boys into engaging in sexual behavior with him.

Nitchman's 17-acre thoroughbred farm, Caladon Farm, has been on the market for more than a year.
