Woman Punches 9-Year-Old Girl, Mother on Subway: NYPD

A 34-year-old woman punched a 9-year-old girl on the subway while she was with her classmates on a school trip Thursday morning, police say.

The girl, a student at P.S. 142, was waiting near the subway booth at Essex and Delancey streets at about 11 a.m. when the suspect went up to her and punched her, causing a bloody nose, police said.

When the girl's mother tried to intervene, the woman also hit her, leaving a large bump to her forehead, according to police.

Both the girl and her mother were taken to Beth Israel Hospital.

The suspect, identified as Latrice Jasper, was arrested at the station on charges of assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child. She's been arrested 32 times before, according to police. The Daily News reports she is homeless and bipolar.

It's not clear if she has an attorney.
