Three men posing as construction workers barged into a Long Island house where work was being done, tied up the two homeowners and three workers inside and whipped one of the homeowners with a gun before stealing cash and cellphones, authorities say.
A nearby high school was placed on lockout after the home invasion in Bellmore Friday morning.
Police believe the home was targeted because the owners recently sold a business. A man and woman in their 40s own the home and were inside with three legitimate construction workers at the time of the break-in. The homeowner hit with the gun suffered minor injuries, police said.
The men masquerading construction workers fled in a gray van after the robbery.
Police say they were wearing hard hats, dust masks and construction clothing.
