NJ-Bound Holland Tunnel Closed This Weekend for Repairs

Traffic will be diverted from the Varick Street approaches to Canal Street West to West Street North or Hudson Street North

New Jersey-bound motorists won't be able to use the Holland Tunnel during the overnight hours this weekend.

The New Jersey-bound lanes will be closed from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for roadway "retexturing.''

Traffic will be diverted from the Varick Street approaches to Canal Street West to West Street North or Hudson Street North. Motorists are advised to use the Lincoln Tunnel.

Similar work took place in the Manhattan-bound lanes last weekend.

The Port Authority says "retexturing'' is primarily done to improve the skid resistance on the tunnel's road surface.

Workers will also clean grease and oil residue to make the roadway safer.
